Honda Outboard Motor 150 HP Engine Review

www.reefari.com Honda outboard Motor 150 HP, now owned by Jason for several reliable happy years is taken for a day out, or really it’s taken us out for the day out fishing. She’s a 150 HP honda outboard engine, with several hundred hours on the clock, and a great motor. Honda’s can be a bit dearer than other outboards, but this was a great motor which ran well all day, very economical and quiet. Jason’s had no problems or breakdowns which is what you want. The Honda 150HP was on a Mustang Bluewater 2000 Hull, and a great size boat for daytrips to the nearby islands and reefs. It pushed her to a top speed of about 35 knots, and cruised very comfortably 22 to 27 knots, with 25 knots about the most ecomical speed with 2.2 kilometres to the litre. Find some calm water, watch the fuel guage closely, and adjust your trip as well, can make a big difference. You’ve got to be happy with that, My twin Suzuki’s on my charterboat are about four litres to the kilometre. Yamaha and Suzuki’s are also great motors as well and would be worth comparing. The 140HP Suzuki is a class leader for Horsepower to weight, bit less horsepower, but they come with a 5 year warranty. Great piece of mind, and I would be repowering every 5 years, and know you’ve got a great realiable outboard motor. nice vid, great motor love the start up and so i take it that with 2 of them it gives better torque and better acceleration?

2 motors definately better than one, but twice the cost and more service costs. Also great for piece of mind if one breaksdown, at least you can get back safely. We travel some large distances of Mackay, up to 50 nautical miles. And you’re right more grunt/torque with two if carrying heavy loads, but not much in it for top speed, probably a big single is faster,

i found that DI two strokes get better fuel economy at slow speeds than four strokes do. and even at crusing speeds DI two strokes only use .2 – .4 more gallons per hour than four strokes which is almost nothing. and at full throttle i have found that DI two strokes use 1 gallon more per hour than four strokes do but again not a huge difference and you get alot more torque and speed than the four strokes. both are great motor’s though. i have both on my boat. main is a DI and kicker is 4 stroke

I’ve always had 4 strokes, main difference is servicing the oil in the sump versus oil burnt in the fuel, Expensive on Evinrude E-tecs. Two strokes maybe a bit lighter, and faster excelleration, Fuel consumption seems to be very similar,

@Reefari yes i agree the oil can get expensive if you use the boat everyday but mine is only a 115 hp DI two stroke and i go through one gallon of oil for every 100-125 gallons of fuel. However I can tell you that some of the four strokes are very quiet. My DI two stroke has a quiet clicking noise at idle which i think are from the injectors but overall the motor isn’t much louder than four strokes. I like my four stroke as a kicker because it sips on fuel and is pretty quiet when trolling.

I’m sure there’s not much in it between outboards, but having a auxiliary outboard for trolling is a good idea and save putting a heap of hours up on the Main engine, plus always handy to get home if you ever have a breakdown and it does happen,

Quality outboard, Jason’s very happy with his, but most modern motors are pretty reliable now, and come with good warranty’s, and all the best.
